Driven out of West Kurdistan (Rojava), many people found refuge in the camps of the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan. Herz ohne Kammer shows their faces and stories—captured in photographs and texts created between tents, barracks, and the first steps into a new everyday life. The book documents not only their flight, but also its consequences: the loss of home, language, and belonging – and at the same time the hope that people retain despite everything. The pictures and reports provide insight into refugee camps such as Kawergosk, Bardarash, and Akrê and tell of families, children, and elderly people who are shaping their everyday lives in temporary circumstances.
