Driven from West Kurdistan (Rojava), many people found refuge in the camps of the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan. Herz ohne Kammer shows their faces and stories—captured in photographs and texts created between tents, barracks, and the first steps into a new everyday life. The book documents not only their flight, but also its consequences: the loss of home, language, and belonging—and, at the same time, the hope that people hold on to despite everything. The photographs and reports offer insights into refugee camps such as Kawergosk, Bardarash, and Akrê, and tell the stories of families, children, and elderly people shaping their everyday lives under temporary conditions.
